After many years of believing that our ego is a force to overcome, my opinion has changed. This is due, in no small part to conversations with my guide and other spirits that no longer need to reincarnate. Ego is another name for personality and it is my experience that each spirit retains a personality although not centred around self. My conclusion is that the Ego has a spiritual side, therefore totally suppressing the Ego is not the answer. We do need to shift the focus from self centring, but there is no need to destroy the personality in the process.
I know this may appear to go against a lot of teachings but I believe its inclusion has been to do more with control then spiritual enlightenment. I have spoken to many people who like myself claim to have spoken to spirit and each one has when asked to describe those spirits has offered a description which includes a personality. Ego is a synonym of personality therefore those spirits have an "EGO" true there are not self centred egos but that does not change the fact they do in fact have an ego. Each spirit could also be described as being an individual therefore individuality does not go against enlightenment. You can in fact have a ego that is not based on self and be a spiritual individual. I believe the two go hand in hand and to be an assent to one spiritual enlightenment. Don't think for a moment it is a cop out, try it for yourself, it is not as easy as it seems.
