Self-realization begins the moment we contemplate the possibility that we are more then the body. Sometimes we can pin point that moment, but in most cases the change is not instant and happens slowly over a period of time. The hard part is separating the body and spirit in our thinking. Language wise it is an impossible task and we should not concern ourselves about it. Those of us that have reached or are on the journey to self-realization know only to well this limitation and will understand what you mean. The mind however is capable of abstract thought, that language cannot express. It is in the mind our quest begins and this first step is the hardest. The mind is used to being the controlling influence in our lives and will fight to remain so. We need to look beyond the mind to that which controls it. Even though the mind is in itself the control center of the body it is a tool, granted a very complex one but a tool all the same. We need to turn off the auto pilot and take control of the helm, in doing so we will realize that we are not the vehicle or any part of it. What are we? well that is our next hurdle.
